4 Drinks to Help Celebrate National Tequila Day

Americans consume over 50 million liters of tequila every year. That’s why this special spirit has its own national holiday. National Tequila Day is celebrated on July 24. This year, why not plan a fiesta and celebrate all that is tequila with your friends and family?

If you want to take a break from the salt, shot, and lime combination, these recipes will allow you to enjoy everything you love about tequila.

Strawberry Jalapeno Margarita

The margarita is the most popular tequila drink out there. There are so many flavor combinations made possible by this drink. This recipe from Cosmopolitan adds a little sweetness and a little spice to bring you a delicious margarita.

1½ oz. Corzo Tequila Silver
1 oz. Cointreau
½ oz. agave nectar
¾ oz. lime juice
1 strawberry
½ tsp. jalapeño, diced

Muddle strawberry and jalapeño in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and remaining ingredients. Shake vigorously and strain into a glass filled with ice.

Tequila Sunrise

The layered ingredients in this drink allows it to both ook and taste great. Allrecipes has a great recipe for a tequila sunrise that can be made in just five minutes. The ratio of juice to tequila is relatively high in this recipe, so you could have this drink at brunch or outside on the porch, enjoying the warm weather.

Ingredients
1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger tequila
3/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1/2 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger grenadine syrup
1 slice orange, for garnish
1 maraschino cherry for garnish

Directions

Stir or shake together tequila and orange juice. Fill a chilled 12 ounce glass with ice cubes; pour in orange juice mixture. Slowly pour in the grenadine, and allow it to settle to the bottom of the glass (be patient). Garnish with a slice of orange, and a maraschino cherry.

Lagerita

If you enjoy beer and tequila, then this is the drink for you. Liquor.com has a recipe that adds a twist to the margarita that is super refreshing.

Salt (optional)

2 oz Cabeza Tequila

.75 oz Cointreau

1 oz Fresh lime juice

4 oz Modelo Especial Beer

Garnish: Lime wheel

Glass: Highball

If desired, coat the rim of a highball glass with salt, fill with ice and set aside. Add the tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice to a shaker and fill with fresh ice. Shake, and strain into the prepared glass. Top with the beer and garnish with a lime wheel.

Black Widow

Another great recipe from Liquors.com is the Black Widow. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it sounds. This drink has a sweet bite to it, unlike the spider it shares a name with.

2 Blackberries

3 Basil leaves

1.5 oz Don Julio Blanco Tequila

1 oz Fresh lime juice

1 teaspoon Agave nectar

Garnish: Blackberry and basil leaf

Glass: Stemless Martini

In a shaker, muddle the blackberries and basil. Add the remaining ingredients and fill with ice. Shake well and strain into a stemless Martini glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with a blackberry and basil leaf on a toothpick.
