Summertime Drink Recipes

That summertime heat is here, so drinks that can quench your thirst are in great need. There are a lot of drinks out there for you to choose from, but there are only a few that will really be able to do the job. Luckily, we found a few Mexican drinks from Saveur that will help you out this summer. You will be able to enjoy yourself and the heat with one of these in your hand.

Grapefruit Agua Fresca

This cocktail is a great way to get an exciting taste to liven up your day and to sweeten it with the bit of honey mixed in.

  • 2 oz. blanco tequila
  • ½ oz. Cocchi Americano Rosa
  • ½ oz. fresh Ruby Red grapefruit juice
  • ½ oz. honey

Directions

Stir tequila, Cocchi Americano Rosa, grapefruit juice, and honey in a rocks glass filled with ice; garnish with grapefruit slice and a mint sprig.

Picante De La Casa

This sweet and spicy drink will balance out enough to help you enjoy yourself while basking in the sun.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. tequila
  • 1 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ¾ oz. agave nectar
  • 12 cilantro leaves, plus 1 sprig for garnish
  • 1 (¼”) piece of Fresno chile pepper, plus 2 rings for garnish

Directions

Muddle tequila, lime juice, agave, cilantro leaves, and ¼” piece of chile in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake vigorously; strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with cilantro sprig and chile rings.

Prickly Pear Margarita

Whether you go with the tequila or the margarita, this drink is a great way to cool off on a hot day. The margarita is made like a smoothie so you can enjoy a nice treat like the kids, but with a little kick.

Ingredients

For prickly pear-infused tequila:

  • 10 prickly pear fruits
  • 1 750-ml. bottle of silver tequila

For margarita:

  • 1 tequila-infused prickly pear
  • 4 oz. prickly pear-infused tequila
  • 2 oz. frozen limeade
  • 1 ½ oz. Cointreau

Instructions

  1. For the infused tequila, peel prickly pears; put into a glass jar. Pour in tequila, seal jar, and let sleep for at least 2 days.
  2. To make margaritas, mash 1 prickly pear through a mesh strainer into a bowl; discard seeds. Combine prickly pear-infused tequila, 2 cups crushed ice, limeade, Cointreau, and the mashed prickly pear in blender; puree until slushy.

Chico

This drink is simpler than the rest, but still does the job. It has a little kick, but will help you to enjoy yourself while you enjoy the summer weather.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. gin or silver tequila
  • 2 oz. blackberry liqueur
  • 1 oz. simple syrup
  • ½ oz. fresh lemon juice
  • Club soda, to taste

Directions

Fill a highball glass with ice. Add the gin, liqueur, simple syrup, and lemon juice; top off with club soda. Stir.
